“Honor the space between no longer and not yet.”
~Nancy Levin

The liminal space.

Transition.

Transformation.

A sense of having one foot in one space, and one foot in another.

In between.

Liminality is the in-between moments, the space between an inciting incident in a story and the protagonist’s resolution. It is often a period of discomfort, of waiting, and of transformation. Your old habits, beliefs, and even personal identity disintegrate.

I’m in between things again right now. Again? Hmmm, honestly, always.

Between identities, seasons, years, holidays, trips, stages, plans, jobs, relationships or relationship status, places…Really, we all are all the time, aren’t we?

Man, I can feel like I’m on the struggle bus in those liminal spaces, though! I’m waiting…I’m wanting maybe to be in two places at once…I’m anticipating…I’m attempting to figure out…I’m attempting to foretell, predict, and manipulate the future or my surroundings (like that’s even possible!)…Asking, asking, asking, thinking, “what’s next?”…

My favorite places of liminality are

spiritual being and physical being.

Yogi and veteran (the two don’t always go together in peoples’ minds ;-p).

Footballer (Gaelic and Australian) and yogi.

Desire to stay (just bought a house) and the omnipresent desire to travel, live abroad, explore.

The struggle to be strong, as well as soft/compassionate/kind.

What are your most or least favorite places of liminal space? Why?

What happens in the liminal space?

(Magic, I think. Oh but it hurts sometimes!)

*Picture from USAFL National Tournament in Sarasota, FL, October 2016. I chose this photo (I’m #13) because it seems to pretty well visually depict how I feel in my liminal spaces ;)…floating…Kind of doing a warrior 2 in the air (blending yoga and footy)).
