You’ve seen the title of this blog and now you’re asking yourself, “I want to be a part of the Fatty Club?”  What on earth…

You see, I was a founding member of the UVA Women’s Club Soccer Team “Fatty Club.”  I used to be a little more….shall we say….”solid” in college, and to embrace my size and personality, I banded together with a couple of whacky fun-loving soccer friends to form the Fatty Club.  We donned names such as Jumbo Jo, Large Margie, and Souper-Sized Sarah.  Little did we know, we were paving the way to better health later in life….sort of 😉

Ok, so now I know the Ruby Tuesday’s Tall-cakes we were scarfing down in 2 minutes or less to earn our membership into the Fatty Club weren’t comprised of the type of fat I’m going to talk to you about today 🙂  But it sure was a lot of fun, and although those junkfood scarfing days have passed, I still embrace the value of (good) fat.

So, here’s the scoop!  FAT IS GOOD FOR YOU as long as you’re eating the healthy kind of fat.  So watch the video below to learn to not only enjoy your food more, but to actually improve your health and brain function while you’re at it! 🙂

Not all fats are bad. Good fat is for your body like what oil is for your car: it lubricates our bodies and powers our system to run smoothly and efficiently. Did you know that incorporating healthy fats into your daily diet actually promotes weight loss and better brain health?  As a survivor of multiple Traumatic Brain Injuries, I can assure you that brain health is at the top of my priorities as I know it is for many of you veterans out there reading this.  Your brain is a fatty organ, and when we deprive it of the fat it needs by eating too much processed food or adhering to restrictive diets (that we are mislead to believe are good for us) we deprive our brains of the healthy oil it needs to run at peak performance.

Consider adding some of these to your day in high quality and moderation:
– healthy oils like coconut, sesame, walnut, grapeseed, and extra virgin olive
– natural, organic, and/or grass-fed beef butter like Kerry Gold
– nuts and seeds
– nut butters beyond the standard PB such as tahini and almond butter
– avocados
– wild caught salmon
– organic eggs
